Down-in-trip Restorer will run a big race says bullish Muir
Wolferton Handicap (Listed) | 1m2f | 4yo+ | ITV/RUK
Having sent out three winners in the last six years John Gosden is the trainer to follow in this contest but his Maverick Wave looks to face a tough task on his seasonal reappearance. The six-year-old was also well beaten in this 12 months ago and it could pay to side with one of the five four-year-olds. That age group have been responsible for seven of the eight winners.
What they say
Eve Johnson Houghton, trainer of Scarlet Dragon
It was always the plan to come straight to Ascot after going to Doha. It might be a big ask first time up, but he's working really well.
Roger Charlton, trainer of Ayrad
He was gelded at the end of last season and has taken a bit of time to come to hand. He may need the race but the trip is okay, although he does stay a mile and a half.
Andrew Balding, trainer of Elbereth
She's been in great form all year and these should be her optimum conditions, although she has a tricky draw.
Roger Varian, trainer of Central Square
He shaped nicely against the pace bias on his reappearance at Newmarket. His best form was when conceding weight to progressive three-year-olds in blinkers at Doncaster, so we’ve put the headgear back on. I'd have liked a lower draw.
Owen Burrows, trainer of Muntazah
If he runs up to his best form, he could run a good race. He's been getting a bit lazy so we have gone for the cheekpieces.
Tim Easterby, trainer of Snoano
He likes a bit of juice in the ground but does go on good going. He has a good chance.
William Muir, trainer of Restorer
I always felt he'd want to come back to a mile and a quarter. If we got a shower of rain it would help, but I can see him running a big race. He's probably my best chance of the week.
David Simcock, trainer of Dragon Mall and Majeed
Dragon Mall has plenty of talent and ran nicely last time and should be better for the run. Majeed came back from a holiday after Dubai and will be fit, although his ideal trip is really a mile and three furlongs.
