Classic strike would be the mightiest of triumphs for Roaring Lion and Gosden
Among this week’s more delicious pieces of news was the revelation that John Gosden is considering a tilt at the Breeders’ Cup Classic with Roaring Lion. Ten years ago, Gosden took the Classic with Raven’s Pass on one of those truly special sun-kissed evenings at Santa Anita.
Frankie Dettori whooped and hollered and hurled his bright green silks airborne against the perfect azure sky before planting a smacker on the unsuspecting Bo Derek. Just in case Bo felt special, he then locked lips with the clerk of the scales.
A few yards away, Gosden stood tall but reflective, an arm around his wife Rachel Hood, glanced into the middle distance and reminded ESPN reporter Jeannine Edwards that this was were it had all started. He said they had “a little house in the Hollywood Hills”, before adding rather ruefully: “I’m not sure why we ever left."
