With Richard Hughes as her employer, up-and-coming apprentice Nicola Currie does not need to look far for advice about her riding. "Every race I ride I go into the office and go over it with him, whether it's style, whip or racing tactics," says Currie, who has caught the eye in riding a clutch of winners over the summer.
"I could never have imagined it would go as well as this," adds the 24-year-old, described as "outstanding" by Newmarket trainer John Berry, for whom she has ridden three winners. "She claims 7lb and I'd happily use her without a claim," adds Berry, while Hughes says he is "full of hope she has a bright future".
