Derby-winning jockey William Buick is to undergo more tests in hospital next week having been sidelined since last weekend due to illness.

Buick, 30, went to Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge on Monday after complaining about feeling unwell and his employer Godolphin said he would not be in action this week.

The rider returned home this week, but his spell on the sidelines is to be extended over the weekend and into next week while it is determined exactly what has caused the problem.

His agent George Baker said on Thursday: “William is back home and feeling a little better in himself. He’s got to go back for more tests next week as we want to find out what we’re dealing with and then we’ll have a better idea about when he can return to riding.

“He won’t be riding this weekend or until the tests have been done. The main thing we all want is for William to be healthy and back to his best as soon as possible.”

With Buick on the sidelines, Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby has booked James Doyle to ride Ispolini in Friday’s Matchbook Yorkshire Cup and Mythical Magic in Saturday’s Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.
