Enable closing in on Sandown return after missing Royal Ascot showdown
Royal Ascot may have come too soon for Enable but connections remain positive about her prospects for the year as she gears up to return to action in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown next month.
The dual Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine had been in line for a showdown with Sea Of Class, Magical, Crystal Ocean and Waldgeist in the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot before plans were changed to give her more time.
The five-year-old mare has been turning in a string of pleasing performances in her workouts in Newmarket, and Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to her owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah, believes the multiple Group 1 winner is coming to herself.
Grimthorpe said on Wednesday: "Enable’s very well and she worked on the Limekilns in Newmarket yesterday morning under Robert Havlin, and she worked very nicely.
"She’s getting there and, most importantly, she looks to have retained all of her enthusiasm from last year. She’s an absolute star.”
Enable’s season remains geared around winning the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe for a historic third time at Longchamp on October 6. She is the 7-2 favourite.
