'I'm very proud of him' - Arqoob scoops £25,000 Bahrain bonus for William Jarvis
William Jarvis flies back from Bahrain on Monday after landing a £25,000 bonus for winning one of their points-based Turf Series with handicapper Arqoob.
The Newmarket trainer was at the finale of the ten-race series on Friday to see his contender clinch the prize when finishing third to Zagato in the Vision 2030 Cup.
Arqoob earned most points in pot B, the nine- and ten-furlong division, for Jarvis and owner Little Staughton Farms Ltd.
Jarvis said: "I’m very proud of him. It's certainly something we'll look at doing next year with this horse or maybe put a syndicate together to get something else. We may have got lucky this year with no Haggas or Gosden runners out there, but they may have it on their radar next year."
Owner Richard Banks’ daughter Emma, who was also at Sakhir racecourse for the finale, said: “What a fantastic bonus to keep him out here. He hasn’t won yet but he’s been ultra-consistent. It’s a really interesting way the points have worked out and makes for an interesting end to the series.”
The winner of pot A, the six- and seven-furlong category, was Happy Craf for owner M & E Racing and Bahrain-based trainer Allan Smith. Happy Craf will follow Arqoob to Newmarket where Smith’s son Martin trains.
Allan Smith said: “Happy Craf deserves it. It’s a pity we couldn’t run her in the last Turf Series race but she’s off to England at the start of April. She’ll be based with my son Martin in Newmarket and she’ll be targeted at Listed and Group Three races.”
