It's a case of two for the price of one at this year's Pegasus World Cup – now in its third year – with the addition of a top-level turf race to complement the existing dirt Grade 1.

Whereas 12 months ago there was a $16 million purse for one race run on the 'main track', this time around there is $9m up for grabs on the dirt and $7m on the line in the turf event. The winner of the dirt race will scoop $4m and there is $3m for whoever triumph on the turf.

The lucrative prize-money is largely funded by the owners, with an entry fee of $500,000 (down from $1m in the first two years) for each race, and Gulfstream Park puts up the rest.
