Third, Kempton, Tuesday

Stick Blueberry Hill in the tracker ready for next year as this juvenile surely has a future in middle-distance handicaps.

Beaten just half a length on his debut over 7f at Kempton, he again hinted at potential on this second start over the same course and distance, catching the eye with his finishing effort behind two rivals who had raced closer to the pace.

Blueberry Hill, a half-brother to several winners ranging from 6f to 1m4f, wasn't knocked about having had to be switched for a run and is capable of winning away from the better types in this grade before really finding his feet next year over further. [Richard Young]

Fifth, Newmarket, Friday

For a well-bred Sir Michael Stoute-trained debutante sporting the Cheveley Park silks, Kirilenko was weak in the betting on her debut being sent off at 16-1, but she shaped with a ton of promise.

Slowly away and off the pace, she met something of a troubled passage in coming through late, but still hit the line well despite Ryan Moore being far from hard on her.

She is going to relish the step up to a mile and will be of strong interest next time, whether it be in a maiden or novice this autumn or when reappearing in 2022. [Mark Brown]

Second, Newmarket, Friday

Although appearing exposed at first glance, Farhan looked to produce a career-best effort on only his second run at 1m4f and might well have more to offer.

A consistent sort who has finished runner-up on four of his five starts this term, the John Butler-trained colt continues to shape like a horse with a decent pot in him and didn't give up in chasing home future Group performer Siskany.

Given Farhan is out of a mare who won at up to 1m7f, there is every chance he can progress further at 1m6f and he remains a horse to be interested in. [Mark Brown]

Third, Newmarket, Friday

Ocean Road hadn't run since finishing a 25-length sixth in the Oaks back in June – a messy race for which she clearly wasn't ready mentally – but this third-placed effort very much suggested she retains Group potential.

Running over 1m2f, a trip clearly short of her best, the Hugo Palmer-trained daughter of Australia travelled well in midfield before finding herself crowded and outpaced as two bang-in-form fillies started to accelerate away from her.

However, she really lengthened well in the closing stages and it will be interesting to see if she can find an opening over further before the season ends. [Mark Brown]

Second, Chepstow, Friday

Philip Hobbs has started the new jumps season really well and Luttrell Lad helped provide the trainer with a one-two in the Grade 2 Persian War Novices' Hurdle, chasing home more experienced stablemate Camprond.

Settling has been an issue for Luttrell Lad, who was again keener than ideal, but this was a fine effort for a horse having just his second hurdles start and the former useful bumper performer should continue to learn with experience.

He could be one to land a good handicap this season, with the prospect of a bigger field and truer pace almost certain to suit. [Tyrone Molloy]

Seventh, Newmarket, Saturday

Spanish Kiss has shot up almost 20lb in the ratings in 2021, winning three times from 1m4f-2m and moving up to a career-high mark of 94, but this run suggested he can rate higher still.

The William Knight-trained four-year-old travelled remarkable strongly in the Cesarewitch, always one of the most competitive handicaps of the season, only for his stamina to run dry over the marathon trip.

He very much remains a horse to follow and could land a big pot next season, with the prospect of further progress given he was lightly raced prior to this year. [Mark Brown]
