Hamilton chief Currie handed MBE for services to racing, business and charity
Hamilton chief executive Vivien Currie enjoyed "a special moment" as she was finally presented with her MBE by Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge at Windsor Palace on Tuesday.
She was recognised in the New Year's Honour's List in late-2019 for services to racecourse management, business and charity in Hamilton but the ceremony was delayed due to the pandemic.
"This is a very special moment for me and my family, and I am incredibly honoured and humbled," she said after the investiture. "The horseracing industry is such a wonderful sport to work in.
"Every day is different and I have been so fortunate to work alongside so many great people from so many different organisations within it.
"My career has been so rewarding thus far: it doesn't feel like work. To be honoured for doing something that I enjoy so much makes me one of the luckiest people ever."
Currie has been chief executive at Hamilton since 2008 and during her time at the helm a £10 million hotel has been opened on the course.
She spent six years as vice chair of the Racecourse Association and was a non-executive director of the BHA between 2016 and 2019 and was also a member of the development board at Marie Curie Cancer Care, which raised over £1m to fund the Glasgow Hospice.
Currie, who originally qualified as an accountant, was formerly chief executive of Livingston Football Club and was the first woman to sit on the Scottish Football League Management Committee.
