Greyhound Board of Great Britain suspends Danny Brock's training licence

Danny Brock has had his licence to train greyhounds temporarily suspended after the former jockey was disqualified from British horseracing for 15 years on Thursday having been found guilty of engaging in corrupt and fraudulent practices.

Brock was found by the disciplinary panel to have participated in a corrupt betting conspiracy by preventing two horses he was riding from obtaining the best possible position in races when they had been bet against by his co-conspirators between December 2018 and September 2019.

Brock has not ridden since 2021, instead establishing himself as a greyhound trainer at Harlow in Essex with 40 dogs under his care. He has had eight winners from 70 runners this year.

In a statement, the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) outlined how the severity of the findings against Brock required it to suspend his licence while it carried out its own investigation.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of the action taken by the BHA this week following disciplinary proceedings against Mr Brock, which found him guilty of participation in corrupt practices in relation to horseracing.

“Whilst we are not aware of any evidence to suggest these practices related in any way to greyhound racing, GBGB considers that the conduct found proved by those proceedings is serious and may amount to a breach of GBGB’s rules of racing.

“GBGB has reviewed the matter and considers that these findings are sufficiently serious to temporarily suspend Mr Brock’s licence as a greyhound trainer, pending a full disciplinary process, pursuant to the rules of racing.”

Following Thursday’s penalty hearing, the BHA said the suspensions for Brock and four others – Sean McBride, Eugene Maloney, Andrew Perring and Luke Howell – sent a “powerful message that conduct of this nature will never be tolerated in British racing”.

However, Brock, who is considering an appeal, said on Thursday the sanction he received was “ludicrous” and added: “I'm being made out to be someone I'm not and they've painted a picture of me that's not me.”

McBride was disqualified for seven years by the disciplinary panel having also been found to have engaged in corrupt and fraudulent practice involving the Brock-ridden Samovar, who was beaten in a match race at Southwell after his opponent, Tricky Dicky, was heavily backed by McBride.

Maloney, Perring and Howells were all banned from racing in 2020 for refusing to cooperate with the BHAs inquiry. The panel stated any applications for them to return to racing should not be considered for at least 15 years.
