Godolphin jockey bookings revealed as Santa Barbara continues to drift

It's full steam ahead to the Epsom Classics, the Cazoo Derby and Cazoo Oaks. Market movers come thick and fast as the key Classic trials are run in Britain and Ireland, but big-race contenders can come from anywhere and it's easy to miss a potential dark horse. Classic Clues, our series running every morning, has you covered. Here's a recap of the latest news and how it's impacted on the Classic betting.

Jockey bookings revealed

William Buick is set to ride Hurricane Lane, whose price ranges from 6-1 to 9-1, in the Derby next Saturday, and the colt impressed with a stylish workout on Saturday.

The son of Frankel beat Megallan and High Definition in the Dante, which is traditionally one of the stronger Derby trials, and is currently Godolphin's primary chance in the Classic.

James Doyle will partner Charlie Appleby's other runner, One Ruler, who finished sixth in the 2,000 Guineas.

Mystery could be Oaks wildcard

Following Friday's latest entry stage, 15 fillies remain in contention for the Oaks, including Mystery Angel, who was supplemented for £17,000.

Fourth in the Musidora at York behind fellow Oaks entrants Snowfall, Teona and Noon Star, Mystery Angel is reportedly in excellent form at home, which prompted owners Nick Bradley Racing to fork out the supplementary fee.

The filly won the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket earlier on this season and is highly regarded by up-and-coming trainer George Boughey.

Doubt mounts behind Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara has remained weak in the betting for the fillies' Classic and is now as big as 9-4, with stablemates Snowfall and Divinely proving popular.

Punters appear to be going cold on the inexperienced filly, who finished fourth in the 1,000 Guineas on just her second start.

Ladbrokes spokesman Jon Lees said: “She is now the biggest price she has been since shortly after her Newmarket defeat.

"With stablemates the Musidora winner Snowfall a solid 4-1 and Divinely backed into 12-1 during the week, the identity of Ballydoyle’s number one challenger appears less clear-cut.”
