Gosden and Dettori team up to strike with Khalidi
Two years after teaming up to win the Feilden Stakes with subsequent Derby and Arc hero Golden Horn, John Gosden and Frankie Dettori repeated the trick as Khalidi handed them victory in the race once again.
Khalidi, sent off a 7-2 shot, was not as impressive as Golden Horn had been two years ago but was well on top of the 5-2 favourite Salouen in the closing stages to win by a neck, having taken the lead inside the final furlong.
Law And Order took third place for James Tate and Martin Harley, three and a quarter lengths behind the winner.
Khalidi, a son of High Chaparral who was handing Dettori his fourth Feilden Stakes success, does not hold any Classic entries and was beaten on his seasonal reappearance in a Doncaster handicap this month.
Gosden is now eyeing further early-season success with a horse he believes relished the going at Newmarket, which was described as good, good to firm in places.
Gosden said: "That was probably Khalidi's Derby but we'll look at the Chester Vase with him. He got bogged down in the ground when we ran him at Doncaster the other day. He's a fun horse and he tries hard. He loved this ground and Frankie rode him with confidence."
Derby entry Salouen ran well despite racing keenly in the early stages.
