This promises to be a pivotal year for the gambling industry, with changes to regulation and the effects of Covid-19 hanging over the sector. We asked a selection of industry figures for their thoughts and predictions for what 2022 might hold...

Since this is the Racing Post, we have focused on areas that affect both gambling and racing. We provide two inevitably negative predictions and a wish which we hope won’t be a vain one, because it is also the best solution to the problems facing both industries.

The most obvious thing to look out for in the first half of the year is the DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) white paper on gambling reform. This will no doubt end the relative political lull and restart the future of gambling debate in earnest.
