In testing conditions I Can’t Explain (91+) produced a potent turn of foot off a steady gallop between the final two fences. The fall of the main danger at the last – which brought the third close to a standstill – exaggerated the winning margin. He had looked the likely winner, nonetheless.

Daisy Chicks (76+) found this level more to her liking, having failed to make an impact in four starts over hurdles. She proved a tough customer in the conditions. There will be greater tests ahead in winners’ company.
