West Waterford at Lismore: Fenno’s cooks up a storm for Queally
Ground conditions were extremely testing at Lismore on Sunday but it was a memorable day for Declan Queally, who was in double-winning form.
The Cappagh-based jockey, who also trained the two winners, instigated his brace aboard the grey Ruairis Cloud in the O’Keeffe Sawmills Ltd Lismore winner of two, a gelding of whom he has only recently taken charge for owner John Kingston.
The winning son of Cloudings showed huge heart as he bravely held on to beat Back To Basics by a length, to whom he was conceding some 10lb, with the favourite Fightfirewithfire returning a distance adrift in a disappointing third. Winning trainer Queally said: “I’ve only had him three weeks and he could go for a hunter chase now.”
