Handlers Noel Kelly and Peter Flood dominated the opening two days of the new point-to-point season, with the pair winning half of the 12 races over the weekend.

Draperstown trainer Kelly combined with former champion northern rider Noel McParlan to win the concluding three races at his local Toomebridge fixture on Saturday and 24 hours later it was Flood’s turn to saddle three winners on the Castletown-Geoghegan card.

That treble for the Meath trainer included the popular victory of Star Wizard, a horse owned by lifelong point-to-point supporter Hugh Mulvihill, who has been an integral part of assisting Midland fixtures for more than 40 years.
