The Sam Curling-trained La Feline enjoyed a perfect start to the defence of her champion point-to-point mares' title with a comfortable victory on her return to action at Lisronagh on Saturday.

The seven-year-old's three-and-a-half-length success came in the first mares' open of the season and, encouragingly, she had to beat ten rivals to do so as the race produced one of the biggest fields across the weekend's three fixtures.

Mares' opens have largely struggled to produce competitive fields so far this year. The state of the division was laid bare when Sam Curling’s Martaline mare beat just one rival at Loughanmore last Easter, and that rival hadn't won since a sole success in the pointing fields in 2019.
