Roi Du Mee makes perfect start to life between the flags
Grade 1 winner Roi De Mee was the undoubted star of the show at Maralin on Saturday as the 11-year-old disposed of four opponents easily in the feature John McGovern Building Contractor open lightweight.
Despite the joint-champion mare from last season Maple Mons featuring in the line-up, none of his rivals were able to live with the easy travelling French-bred Lavirco gelding who returned unchallenged, five lengths in front of recent Loughanmore third Balnaslow in the hands of Jamie Codd.
The Gordon Elliott-trained bay carried the colours of Gigginstown House Stud to success in the jnwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal in 2013, and was last seen chasing home stablemate and subsequent Gold Cup winner Don Cossack in the same contest at the neighbouring venue 12 months ago.
