ON an afternoon that brought a terrific crowd to welcome President Higgins, Ciaran Fennessy partnered his first winner since sustaining a serious pelvic injury 18 months ago.

Victory came on Lisnagar Oscar for Fermoy-based owner-trainer-breeder Dennis Fitzgerald in the Farm First Insurance five-year-old geldings’ maiden.

Fresh and fully recovered from his fall at Rathcannon in October 2016, Fennessy restrained Lisnagar Oscar at the rear of the field until beginning his move on the descent to three out.
