Many racegoers left Fairyhouse on Sunday convinced they had witnessed a smart bumper performer when Getabird strode to a 12-length success in the concluding contest.

In some ways his impressive success should not have come as too much of a surprise, as his owner Rich Ricci had pinpointed the Getaway gelding as his bumper horse to watch in an interview before the gelding had even graced the racecourse.

However, as there were a number of well-touted runners featuring among the line-up – including a number of last spring’s four-year-old maiden performers – the manner in which each was outclassed by the dominant display of Willie Mullins’ charge looked pretty special.
