Fabulous show at Liscarroll the perfect way to honour Vincent

On Sunday I enjoyed one of the best point-to-point fixtures I can remember in years. The Liscarroll committee put on a fabulous show on a day which was a fitting honour to the memory of Vincent O’Brien, who was born in the locality almost 100 years ago in April 1917.

He trained at Churchtown in the early years, and it was there he prepared horses such as Cottage Rake and Hatton’s Grace before moving to Ballydoyle.

A lovely spring day was a big help, and a mass of people gathered along the rails over the last furlong or so to provide an atmosphere I haven’t experienced at a point-to-point for a long time.
