It has been a great start to my career point-to-pointing with my first two winners coming in four-year-old maidens and Better Days Ahead felt like a proper horse when I won on him at Lisronagh last month.

My dad, Gary McGill, has had a trainer’s licence for as long as I can remember and I started riding the racehorses at home when I was ten or 11.

I progressed to pony racing when I was about 13 and I kept at it for three years on the northern circuit. I only managed to get three or four winners but it was great experience. You learn so much about riding a finish and race tactics which proved a big help to me when I did get my licence.
