CHRIS O’DONOVAN, former novice rider champion, and his dad John teamed up to land the opener with Baron De Midleton.

The son of Brian Boru was the most experienced of the 16 runners in the Heineken Ireland four-year-old maiden with three previous outings, which clearly helped his cause.

Always well positioned, Baron De Midleton went to the front on the run to the second-last before holding the challenge of the Paul Cashman-ridden newcomer Coole Well by one and a half lengths.
