Autumn aces: top trainers pick their horses to watch on the Flat
We ask a number of Britain and Ireland's top trainers to tell us the horses they are most looking forward to running this autumn . . .
Karl Burke
Three-year-old colt Mayson (sire) - Bruni Heinke (dam)
Owner: David W Armstrong
Form figures: 232111-
Racing Post Rating 94; Official rating 98
He's a Mayson, so loves soft or heavy ground, and he won three on the bounce last back-end. We missed the spring with lockdown of course, and then decided to wait with him while the ground was hit and miss in the summer, but we still think he's very decent. He'll be ready to run in two or three weeks and is definitely Listed or even Group class. He'll be one for next year too. I'm sure he's a very good sprinter.
2 c Vadamos - Damask
Highclere Thoroughbreds
42
RPR 105 OR 105
I'd imagine he'll head to the St Leger meeting for either the Listed 7f race or the Group 2 over the same trip, probably the former. We were thrilled with his second in the Acomb at York last week and he was possibly a bit unlucky to be caught near the finish, as he'd arrived there travelling very strongly. The handicapper was impressed, as he has him running to 105 on just his second start. He'd missed about ten days' work with sore shins after Redcar, so there's a bit of improvement to come fitness wise as well as with greater experience. He possesses a lot of ability and has a lovely temperament.
