Confirmed runners and riders for the 2022 St Leger - plus an early tip
New London will bid to give Charlie Appleby and William Buick back-to-back Cazoo St Legers (3.55 Sunday) after he was declared in a field of nine for the final Classic of the season at Doncaster.
The Godolphin-owned colt made a seamless transition to Group company when defeating ante-post Melbourne Cup favourite Deauville Legend in the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, but will be tackling the 1m6f trip for the first time.
Hurricane Lane was odds-on when landing the race 12 months ago for these connections and the same looks likely for New London, who has been a commanding ante-post favourite in recent weeks.
Hoo Ya Mal, who finished third in that Goodwood contest, will reoppose and has no such stamina doubts after a confidence-boosting win in the March Stakes last month.
He is due to join the training team of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott after Saturday's Group 1 with the Melbourne Cup firmly on the agenda.
Queen's Vase winner Eldar Eldarov is declared to run for Roger Varian and should relish a return to this longer trip after being beaten over a mile and a half in the Grand Prix de Paris in July.
Zechariah, the horse he defeated in the Queen's Vase, has not been declared and his planned rider Andrea Atzeni will instead partner El Habeeb for trainer Kevin Philippart de Foy.
Haskoy was supplemented earlier in the week by Ralph Beckett and the eye-catching winner of the Galtres Stakes will be partnered by Frankie Dettori, who rode the Juddmonte-owned Logician to victory in 2019.
"I can’t ever remember having a filly who has been capable of doing what she’s done in such a short time so we are very much looking forward to it," said Beckett to Qipco British Champions Series. "She didn’t even arrive here until the last week in May as she was very immature.
"I’d be surprised if she didn’t get the trip, as she’s by Golden Horn out of a Nathaniel mare who ran in the Oaks, so the pedigree is all stamina.
"We’ve got a lot to look forward to if she copes with the occasion and the whole jamboree. It’s a good place to be, so fingers crossed."
Aidan O'Brien has won the Leger on six occasions and will rely on the proven stamina of Emily Dickinson, who was last seen finishing third in the Lillie Langtry at Goodwood.
Ireland will also be represented by the Paddy Twomey-trained French Claim, who was third behind Westover in the Irish Derby in June and will arrive fresher than all of his rivals.
The field is completed by runaway Newmarket handicap winner Giavellotto and the Ivan Furtado-trained Lizzie Jean, who will be the lowest-rated in the line-up.

Pedigree punting: St Leger verdict and 1-2-3 prediction
It is highly interesting to see Juddmonte supplementing such an inexperienced filly for this Classic and it’s a decision that either way bodes well for Haskoy's future. There are no stamina doubts from her pedigree and she can remain unbeaten from the smart Eldar Eldarov. New London is clearly progressive and from the famed German ‘W’ family is also taken to run well, albeit whether he should be odds-on is a question as this is his stiffest test to date.

Fascinating clash in the Champagne
Just three runners have been declared for the Group 2 Coral Champagne Stakes (12.30), with runaway Solario Stakes winner Silver Knott taking on Chaldean and Irish challenger Indestructible.
Silver Knott took his record to 2-3 with a dominant performance in that Group 3 contest, following in the footsteps of Masar, who went on to win the Derby the following year.
Chaldean also made it two wins from three with a gutsy effort to deny a reopposing Indestructible in the Acomb.
Nine have also been declared in the Group 2 Cazoo Park Stakes (3.20), headed by last month's City Of York Stakes winner Kinross.
Double Or Bubble defeated Misty Grey by a head in a Goodwood Group 3 two weeks ago and they will lock horns once again, with Garrus, Al Suhail and Jumby also standing their ground.
