Fontwell's Wednesday card latest weather cancellation, Newmarket only afternoon meeting left in Britain and Ireland
Fontwell has been forced to cancel its seven-race card on Wednesday after failing an early morning inspection due to a large amount of rainfall overnight.
Officials brought forward the planned 7.30am inspection after 22mm of rain fell overnight and a further 5mm hit the track from 6am.
The going was soft, good to soft in places at the West Sussex venue on Tuesday evening, but clerk of the course Philip Hide said the heavy rain had taken its toll on the track.
He said: "We've had too much rain and it's raining heavily at the moment. It just doesn't give us time for the track to be raceable.
"There's really no more that can be said, we've no time for improvement and hopefully it'll stop later this morning."
It now means Newmarket's fixture is the only afternoon action taking place in Britain today after Worcester's card was cancelled earlier this week due to flooding. The first race begins at 1.50pm and the going is soft.
There is also an evening card on the all-weather at Kempton, with the first of eight races starting at 4.58.
In Ireland, the Curragh has also fallen victim to the severe conditions, with its meeting today – which featured the Amateur Riders Derby – scrapped on Tuesday.
The Curragh has announced the rescheduled fixture will now take place on Tuesday, October 31, before the course's final Flat fixture of the year on November 5.
It joins the list of courses affected by Storm Babet, with Monday's fixtures at Pontefract and Southwell also cancelled due to waterlogging and Yarmouth's Tuesday card called off due to false ground and standing water.
Meetings at Stratford and Market Rasen did not take place on Saturday as a result of the storm, while four upcoming fixtures at Southwell were also cancelled. Worcester's card on November 1 has also been cancelled.
As a result of the recent cancelled meetings, the BHA has introduced an all-weather fixture at Lingfield on Friday afternoon and additional cards at Newcastle on November 2 and Chelmsford on November 4.
