Doncaster hopeful of staging Group 1 Futurity card despite Storm Babet leaving course waterlogged
A battering from Storm Babet has left Doncaster waterlogged and needing the weather to turn to be raceable for the final Group 1 of the Flat season on Saturday.
More than 70mm of rainfall since Friday has saturated the South Yorkshire venue, leaving the track heavy and waterlogged in places, but despite further rain forecast on Thursday officials are hopeful a dry 36 hours in the forecast will be enough for it to return to the right side of raceable.
Speaking on Tuesday afternoon, clerk of the course Paul Barker said: "We just had seven millimetres of rain this morning and there's still light rain falling now. It's heavy going and there is some standing water in the waterlogged places, which is beside the round mile chute – that's where it's most affected.
