Black and yellow: Stradivarius colours encouraged for York's Friday racegoers
Black and yellow colours are set to dominate the fashion scene at York’s Ebor meeting on Friday in celebration of popular stayer Stradivarius.
The racecourse has announced the initiative as the eight-year-old tries to win the £250,000 Lonsdale Cup (2.25) for a fourth time.
Plans to retire Stradivarius were shelved earlier this year and, having won all six of his previous races at York, he would become the most successful horse at the course in modern history if he wins the Group 2 contest.
To mark the occasion, racegoers are being encouraged to dress in ‘Strad Style’ to reflect the famous colours of the horse’s owner Bjorn Nielsen.
It is an opportunity for the more adventurous to add violin accessories to their costumes or even go chestnut with white socks, like Stradivarius himself.
A special ‘Strad Style’ category will be introduced in the style stakes on the day at the York Gin Ebor fashion lawn. A framed photo montage of Stradivarius at York and a limited edition of ‘Stradivarius’ York gin will be presented to the racegoer who is judged to best capture the spirit of the superstar in their outfit, as well as prizes for the younger racegoer.
Racecourse ambassador Megan Nicholls said: “We really hope racegoers attending this Friday will celebrate the living legend Stradivarius by dressing in his famous black and yellow colours or just celebrating him. We want to see as many as possible wearing ‘Strad Style’.”
