CARRIGOON MILO was drawn wider than ideal at Hove last week and struggled to get across to the rail. Better placed in trap two tonight, he can return to winning ways at 7.16, live on PGR.
Lining up in a trial stakes for the upcoming Coral Gold Collar and the first of eight opens at the Sussex circuit, Jamie Kingsley’s speedster can cut loose early on with his fine opening acceleration and make all over the 500m trip.
Paul Young’s Bella Bullet returned to winning ways last time out over 695m and is a big player in the six-bend contest at 7.33, but preference is for Derek Knight’s exciting Candolim Typhoon, who continues to impress and can land a four-timer.
He has enough zip to make the bend ahead and can then stretch out the opposition.
The Richard Rees-trained Avarua Herbie was reeled in late in an A1 over 500m seven days ago but gets the nod tonight to open his account in maiden company at 7.49.
Knight’s Break Point is rarely out of the frame and has a big engine which she used to pick up Avarua Herbie in that A1 clash. The in-form local can score again from off the pace in the bitches’ race at 8.07.
The feature race on the card is the Coral 500 Standard Trophy final at 8.24 and Romford handler Paul Young can land the spoils.
There was little between his heat winner Bubbly Charger and runner-up Bowmers Wildcat last week, but the last-named gets the call to reverse that form with his all-round speed. The August 2023 whelp closed to within a neck at the line and can rattle home again tonight to score.
Frankys Bullet has landed in a moderate 500m maiden at 8.41 and is another fancy for Young.
Maxine Locke’s Grouchos Simon opened his account nicely at Central Park last month and looks a smart pup. He jumps up into all-aged company for another Gold Collar warm-up at 8.59 but has a great draw in trap five on the outside of four railers.
The same applies to Young’s Hazza Summer in the 500m finale at 9.16, who has an identical draw and big claims also.
There are two opens at Newcastle this evening, with Irish Derby semi-finalist Glengar Phantom featuring on his UK debut in the first for Tom Heilbron at 8.19.
It is an above-average contest with the likes of John Flaherty-trained powerhouse Naochra among the opposition, but Heilbron’s ex-Irish ace has the firepower to dominate throughout.
Jimmy Fenwick’s top-class St Leger runner-up Zenith Pasha returns to action over 640m at 8.36 and can justify likely cramped odds.
