Irish Derby hero Los Angeles to stand under Coolmore's National Hunt banner in 2026

Unbeaten Group 1-winning juvenile and Irish Derby hero Los Angeles will stand under the Coolmore National Hunt banner at Castlehyde Stud for 2026, the operation announced on Friday.
The son of 2024 European champion sire Camelot was a comfortable winner on debut at Tipperary for Aidan O'Brien at two and followed up with his first Group 1 victory in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud the following month.
Sporting the colours of Westerberg, Los Angeles opened his three-year-old season with success in the Group 3 Leopardstown Derby Trial before finishing a fine third in the Derby to City Of Troy. He then captured his own Classic win in the Irish Derby and went on to land the Group 2 Great Voltigeur on his following start. He also placed third in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Los Angeles returned this year to defeat fellow Group 1 winner White Birch in the Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes and came out on top in a thrilling finish to the Tattersalls Gold Cup. That effort was run in the fastest time recorded since the race adopted its current distance.

O'Brien said after the Tattersalls Gold Cup: "Los Angeles is a good, hardy, tough horse and he’s at his best when the pace is on – no horse likes a fight more than him. It’s hard to believe how big and powerful he is until you stand beside him and he has an incredible mind, he’s so relaxed.”
Cathal Murphy of Castlehyde Stud added: "He’s an exceptional physical with great bone and depth. He brings Classic performance and stamina from the Montjeu sireline of leading National Hunt influences Walk In The Park and Authorized, and from one of the strongest families in the studbook, that of Galileo, Sea The Stars and Santiago.
"Los Angeles was as genuine and uncomplicated as they come, and I think he will tick a lot of boxes for National Hunt breeders."
Los Angeles features among the entries for next week's Hong Kong Vase. A fee will be announced in due course.
