South Africa will be England's opponents in Saturday's Rugby World Cup final after they edged Wales 19-16 in a tense encounter in Yokohama.

The Springboks had been eight-point favourites but it took a penalty in the final five minutes from fly-half Handre Pollard to settle the game, which had been locked at 16-16 with 15 minutes to go.

Their victory sets up a repeat of the 2007 final in Paris, where South Africa beat England 15-6. The Springboks were eight-point favourites for that match but this time England go in as odds-on shots with the handicap set at three points.

South Africa are bidding to become the first team to win the World Cup having lost a match along the way - they were beaten 23-13 by New Zealand in their opening pool match - while if England lift the trophy they will have done so by beating all three of the other teams who have ever won the tournament.

Josh Adams scored Wales's try in the defeat to South Africa, his sixth of the tournament to put him clear at the top of the tryscoring charts.

He is just 4-11 to finish the tournament as top tryscorer. South Africa's Makazole Mapimpi, who is one behind on five tries, is 9-4.
