Shane Lowry put in a solid performance in the first round of the Wyndham Championship and he should be able to build on that in Greensboro on Friday.

Lowry hit 15 of 18 greens in regulation during his opening effort and he can get the better of Billy Hurley and former US Open champion Retief Goosen during the second round (5.30pm BST).

The Irishman's 14th place at Pebble Beach in February was his best Stateside performance of the year, but he finished sixth at Wentworth in the PGA Championship and should have enough to come out on top of his threeball after his three-under-par 67 on Thursday.

Hurley finished with an even 70, but Greensboro has not been a happy hunting ground for him as he has missed the cut in each of his three previous visits.

It also doesn't bode well that he has not finished in the top 40 in any of his last nine tournaments.

Goosen, meanwhile, struggled with his putter and he could struggle to make the cut after carding a disappointing 72.

He has finished in the top 47 in just three of his 17 US Tour efforts this season.

Ben Martin is another player who can justify favouritism in his 5.40pm round with James Hahn and Steven Bowditch.

Martin's opening 67 should be a good foundation for a successful week and he is turning into a solid performer on the tour, having missed just one of his last 21 cuts.

Hahn will have been disappointed by his closing bogey and has had little success in his two previous visits to the course (57-MC).

He has displayed some good recent form, finishing tenth at the Canadian Open and 13th at last week's USPGA, but just one of his last 15 second rounds has been in the 70s and he is worth taking on.

Bowditch hit a surprising two-under-par 68 on Thursday, but his form this year has been dismal. The Australian has missed 25 of 26 cuts and it would be a shock if he became a factor in the tournament's closing stages.
