Match preview

The Tennessee Titans lost the crutch they’d been leaning on for the past three years when Derrick Henry went down injured last Sunday and are at risk of falling flat on their face in their first game without him against the Los Angeles Rams.

Henry, who has been the leading rusher in the NFL the last two years, suffered a foot injury that will keep him out indefinitely in the win over the Indianapolis Colts, leaving the AFC’s No.1 ranked team needing a major rethink.

No team has attempted more running plays on average this season than Tennessee but the emphasis on offence must now switch to the passing attack, lead by quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

He has two top receivers to call upon in AJ Brown and Julio Jones but even with that duo, the Titans could be made to feel small by a Rams team on a roll. LA have won four straight to get to 7-1.

The Rams are powering towards the playoffs and their odds for Super Bowl glory were trimmed further this week to 13-2 when it was announced they had acquired top defensive talent Von Miller from the Denver Broncos.

Miller significantly improves a defence that had struggled to complement the best offence in the league, according to DVOA.

The Rams are averaging over 30 points per game, thanks in large part to having the top wide receiver in the NFL, Cooper Kupp, who has chalked up 924 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

Without Henry, the Titans have no answer to the Rams firepower and risk being blown away by an LA team who have won nine of the last 11.
