San Antonio Spurs at Denver Nuggets

Game seven

San Antonio’s playoff nous has helped to level the playing field against Denver in their Western Conference first-round shootout and they can use that experience once again as the series comes to the crunch.

It’s 3-3 and showtime at the Pepsi Center (3.05am start), where the young Nuggets are set for a real test from a revitalised Spurs.

San Antonio, who came into the post-season as number-seven seeds in the west, fended off a 43-point assault from Nikola Jokic in game six on Thursday to tie the series.

And, having proved they can win in Denver once – they did so in game one – Gregg Popovich’s seasoned outfit might just have one last hurrah. They can, at the very least, cover the handicap in what should be a really tight, aggressive encounter.

Over in the east they are starting round two of the playoffs with a hard-to-call dust-up between second-ranked Toronto and third-ranked Philadelphia (12.35am start).

The Sixers haven’t won in Toronto on their last 13 trips and the only time they beat the Raptors in the current campaign was when Kawhi Leonard wasn’t playing. He’s available now and is playing out of his skin.

The job the Raptors do on Joel Embiid will be crucial and the Raptors know they are in for a far sterner test than they had against Orlando, who posted 100 points only once in their 4-1 loss.

Recommendation
San Antonio +5.5
