Western powers Golden State and Houston can both surge into round two of the playoffs by completing 4-1 romps over the Clippers and Jazz.

Houston were denied a sweep on Sunday night when Utah went on a stunning 31-12 fourth-quarter burst to run out 107-91 winners and set up a fifth match back in Texas.

It was spirited stuff from the Jazz, who owned the post – they had 17 more rebounds – and shot 85 per cent from the line. They also had a far more productive bench.

But with James Harden back on home court and averaging 28 points per game, the Rockets are fancied to put this one to bed with plenty in hand.

They went 2-0 up in the series with wins by 32 and 20 points so can easily cover an 8.5-point spread.

The Warriors, meanwhile, won both road games against the Clippers, though Game Four was competitive enough.

Golden State haven’t scored under 113 points yet in four match-ups and while LA have managed once to overcome the reigning champs, their achievement was getting a game off the mighty Dubs.
