Tofas began their Euro Cup campaign in style against Limoges and look vastly underrated heading to Belgrade to take on Partizan.

The Turkish hustlers were far too good for Limoges in their Group B opener with Tarik Phillip starring on his debut in an 84-71 success.

They are 8.5-point underdogs in game two and that’s a spread they can comfortably cover.

GB international Phillip, in Turkey after producing a series of fine efforts for Washington Wizards in the NBA Summer League, was outstanding with 17 points, ten rebounds and seven assists in a player-of-the-week performance against Limoges.

The problem for Partizan is they don’t have anyone who can match-up identically to Phillip and that could be a major headache for the Serbs.

The other issue for them is that they were seriously ordinary in pipping Venice 66-63 on the road last week.

Rashawn Thomas, a one-time summer leaguer with Oklahoma City, looked solid but the supporting cast was more of an issue.

Andrea Trinchieri’s men shot just 42 per cent from the field in Venice and missed ten of their 23 free throws.

Partizan got away with it against Venice. They might not be so fortunate against Tofas.
