Preview

Seven countries go to battle in the Speedway Of Nations final this weekend and a small surprise could be on the cards.

Great Britain’s chances of success appear to have diminished. Talisman Tai Woffinden is sidelined due to a broken hand and subsequently a fifth or sixth place finish looks the best they can hope for.

Russia are bidding for a third consecutive world title and look the nation to beat with Grand Prix heavyweights Emil Sayfutdinov and Artem Laguta in their ranks.

Quotes of around 11-8 seem fair for the reigning champions, although there are doubts over the vastly inexperienced Evgenii Saidullin serving as their under 21-rider.

The same applies to the Danish and Sweden line-ups, while Poland have selected Szymon Wozniak to partner the recently crowned world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik - a surprising decision considering Maciej Janowski is available.

Australia have opted for an in-form trio of riders and are worthy of each-way support with bookmakers offering three places.

The Aussies are captained by the world-class Jason Doyle, who has chalked up impressive 29 and 30-point hauls in the last two years and clearly thrives in this event.

He’s joined by Max Fricke, whose upturn in form was duly rewarded with a confidence-boosting maiden Grand Prix victory in Torun two weeks ago.

Recently crowned world under-21 champion Jaimon Lidsey completes a powerful line-up and the well balanced Aussies appear better equipped to trump last seasons bronze medal finish.
