Czech Republic Grand Prix preview

Having collected just two championship points at the series opener in Croatia, Australian racer Max Fricke shocked the speedway world by landing the Polish Grand Prix in front of a jam-packed Warsaw crowd two weeks ago.

Fricke, a 66-1 shot pre-event, clearly had his bike set-up perfectly for the temporary shale, but whether he can deliver such top-class performances on a consistent basis in the future is doubtful.

Croatia runner-up Maciej Janowski failed to capitalise on first gate selection as he narrowly missed out on the final in the Polish capital, but he looks worthy of each-way support to go a few places better in Prague on Saturday.

Janowski showed blistering speed to top the podium in the first leg of Prague’s double-header last season, which was quickly followed up with a solid second-place finish behind eventual world champion Artem Laguta the following day.

It’s clearly a circuit that holds no fears for the Pole and he arrives in top form having led boyhood club Wroc?aw to victory over rivals Gorzow with a healthy 16-point haul last weekend.

Great Britain hero Tai Woffinden bids for his fourth win around the iconic Marketa Stadium but has struggled for speed this campaign and a semi-final appearance may prove his limit.

Bigger threats lie with Danish duo Leon Madsen and Mikkel Michelsen, who are firing on all cylinders recently.
