Reigning double world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik leapfrogged early championship pacesetter Maciej Janowski to top the overall standings as the Grand Prix series reached the half-way stage.

Zmarzlik stormed to his third Grand Prix victory on the bounce in round five at Lublin last week, but was unable to fend off a late charge from the lightning fast Artem Laguta in round six.

The in-form duo look a class above their rivals at present and are difficult to oppose for the one-off event in Malilla, Sweden, although Freddie Lindgren could easily prove a match for them at his home Grand Prix and appeals as a tasty each-way alternative.

Lindgren’s Polish league form often leaves a lot to be desired but he comes alive on the world stage and tends to save his best for the big occasions.

Barring a minor blip around high-speed Wroclaw, Lindgren has fought his way into all other four finals and goes into the weekend with his confidence restored.

The vastly experienced Swede boasts an excellent track record at the Skrotfrag Arena, finishing third in 2017 and 2018 before delighting his home fans with victory in 2019.

The draw has done him no favours with two starts from the historically weaker white gate but he’s got momentum behind him and warmed-up for this event with a stunning 18-point maximum for Vastervik in the Swedish Elitserien on Tuesday.
