Tiger Woods returns to PGA Tour action for the ZOZO Championship

Sherwood Country Club in California takes centre stage

Jason Kokrak can shine at Bethpage Black

Jason Kokrak was the 100-1 winner of the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek - the outsider leaving Xander Schauffele in the runner-up position to which he is becoming all too accustomed.

Kokrak, who booked a place in next month's Masters with his CJ Cup triumph, had never won a PGA Tour event going into last week. Course knowledge though - he revealed he had played Shadow Creek more than 20 times in the past as an ambassador for the club's owners - helped the big-hitter to 20 under par and a two-shot success.

Schauffele suffered further heartache - his second place the latest in a series of near-misses. The world number seven has not won since January last year, becoming a regular PGA Tour bridesmaid. A mid-round spurt gave Schauffele a golden chance of ending his victory drought on Sunday, but he covered the final five holes in 22 shots (one over par) to make life comfortable for Kokrak.

It was a tough week for punters generally and one which left bookmakers relieved. Much-fancied 11-1 favourite Matt Wallace squandered a three-shot lead in the European Tour event - the Scottish Championship - to allow 66-1 chance Adrian Otaegui into the winner's enclosure. Then 14-1 shot Schauffele was humbled by Kokrak.

This week the European Tour moves to the mainland Europe for the Italian Open. A new venue - Chervo Golf Club in Brescia - takes centre stage. Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer are in attendance.

The PGA Tour's ZOZO Championship is usually in Japan, but has been moved to California this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Sherwood Country Club, which hosted the World Challenge from 2000 to 2013, takes over. Tiger Woods headlines the field.
