Smith, 7-2 ante-post, has shortened to 4-11 with 18 holes to play. China's Yan Wei Liu and Japan's Masahiro Kawamura are tied for second place, with Min Woo Lee headlining a four-way tie for fourth spot.

Final-round preview

Cameron Smith has slowly but surely asserted himself on the Australian PGA Championship and he has given himself a golden chance of winning the title for a third time.

Smith, victorious at Royal Pines in 2017 and 2018, was born in Brisbane and has been keen to put on a show in his home state this week. The 29-year-old, the highest-ranked LIV Golf defector, has been on a charm offensive ever since returning to Brisbane and his visit could easily end with more smiles for the trophy presentation.

The Open champion is obviously the most likely winner, with the Asian duo alongside him in round four unlikely to overturn a three-shot deficit, but Smith will probably be keeping an eye on the early scores of Min Woo Lee on Sunday.

Lee did not appear to appreciate his 6am tee-time on Friday and carded a 73 which badly damaged his title hopes, but a third-round 68 moved him back to within four shots of Smith. Lee will require a superb final round to topple his compatriot, but the Perth man has been in fantastic nick in recent weeks and is well capable of delivering the fireworks he needs.

BoyleSports have a 'without Smith' market for which Lee is well worth backing at 7-2. Punters without access to that price should consider the 12-1 Lee outright, with each-way terms of a quarter the odds, first two.

The talented but inconsistent Elvis Smylie is worth chancing at 2-1 for the 11.33pm threeball against Derek Ackerman and John Parry.
