Rory McIlroy has been all the rage in the Ryder Cup top European betting ever since his late fireworks in the Tour Championship on Sunday night.

McIlroy holed out for a spectacular eagle at the par-four 16th hole at East Lake, then continued to produce near-perfect golf until he won a playoff for both the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup. More than $11m was added to his bank account and untold riches to his confidence levels.

McIlroy is no bigger than 7-2 for top European honours and should obviously provide stiff opposition for whichever unfortunate Americans are drawn against him, but there is a good chance his friendship with Andy Sullivan will scupper favourite-backers.
