The Made In Denmark event has been rebranded as the Danish Golf Championship, but the same jolly gathering can be expected in Aarhus, with the local lads taking centre stage.

The Hojgaards – Nicolai and Rasmus – headline a field which is bursting with Danes looking to thrill the enthusiastic hordes who always make this one of the most entertaining DP World Tour stops of the season.

Both Hojgaards can have long spells when they struggle with their short-game. Nicolai has been out of sorts for months, aside from a bold effort at the Olympics, while Rasmus has been out of competition since the Open. Neither appears to represent any value for Lubker GC and its tricky greens.

Thorbjorn Olesen 18-1

Thunderbear, as Thorbjorn Olesen is known on the circuit, has always possessed magic hands on and around the greens. This consistently superb putter can approach this week's challenging short-game assignment with confidence.

Olesen has been licking his lips at the prospect of teeing up in his homeland again. He finished seventh in the inaugural Made In Denmark in 2014 and has four top-25s to his name in the event. The venue switch this year should play into his hands.

The premium on short-game skills helps Olesen's cause, while the forecast for a windy first three days also adds to his chance. Olesen has always been comfortable in a breeze – his maiden DPWT victory came on the coast in Sicily, he has won in Perth and has been Dunhill Links champion.

Olesen has won eight DPWT titles and the 34-year-old can to expect to add to his impressive haul. The eighth success came in Ras al Khaimah in January and he has shown enough since then to suggest he is a likely contender at Lubker.

The Dubai-based star, who won a Challenge Tour event in Sweden in 2010 to kickstart his career, finished 14th in the Texas Open in April and 16th in the Myrtle Beach Classic in May, closing with a spectacular 61. He was 14th in the Olympics at the start of this month and should be potent in this week's low grade.

Sam Bairstow 33-1

The DPWT rookie campaign of Sam Bairstow has been hugely impressive. The Yorkshireman, who has just turned 26, is building on an excellent amateur career and appears to have a bright future. He got up to seventh in the world amateur rankings, turned professional in September, 2022, then won on the Challenge Tour last year in his first season on that circuit.

Eight top-20s on the Challenge Tour were topped off with fourth place in the Grand Final, then the powerful left-hander immediately started banking cheques on the DPWT. This year Bairstow has already had ten top-25 finishes. The Sheffield-born swinger was third in the Singapore Classic in March, sixth in the ISCO Championship co-sanctioned PGA Tour event last month, then closed with a 67 for 12th spot in the Czech Masters on Sunday.

The cool temperatures this week – and the forecast wind – will not bother Bairstow. He could follow David Horsey, Matt Wallace and Oliver Wilson as an Englishman on the honours board of this tournament.

Four-time Australasian Tour winner David Micheluzzi can make an impact this week. Three of those victories came last year, meaning Order of Merit success, providing access to the DPWT. He tied 16th in Bahrain, then was seventh in Singapore, tenth in the Italian Open at the end of June, then second in the BMW International last month.

Micheluzzi has not done a lot wrong since his bold effort in Germany. He missed the cut by a shot in the ISCO Championship on a rare Stateside start, then carded two rounds of 71 for another narrow missed cut in Prague last week. Lubker is a better fit.

Micheluzzi has an elite short-game so he will relish the difficulty of this week's dancefloors. The 28-year-old is brilliant in the wind, as most Aussies are, and 14th place in the Dunhill Links last year underlined that point. He finished 17th in the Made In Denmark last year even though he arrived having missed the cut at three consecutive tournaments.

Complete your attack with Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, a rising star who has just turned 25. He was a superb amateur, who played at Oklahoma State, turning pro last summer. Seventh place in last year's BMW International showed RNP was ready to threaten silverware immediately, then he followed up with 12th spot in the ISPS Handa.

Neergaard-Petersen was a regular contender on the Challenge Tour, finished 22nd in the Dunhill Links, and has progressed further this year. He won on the Challenge Tour in March, then again in April, was second in a CT event in Spain, then sixth in the Danish Challenge at the end of May. He will be a DPWT player next season and it is entirely feasible that he will start his rookie campaign with a victory already under his belt.
