Wednesday's preview

Defending champions the Netherlands opened their Euro 2022 campaign with a respectable draw against Sweden on Saturday but that result means the winner of Group C could now be determined by goal difference, so expect the Dutch to play on the front foot against Portugal.

The 1-1 draw with Sweden was a good result for the Netherlands given that they lost goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal and key defender Aniek Nouwen to injuries in the first half against one of the powerhouses of women's football.

And they should have an easier time of it against Portugal, who were given a place at the tournament only after Russia were disqualified.

They drew their opener 2-2 with Switzerland but had fallen 2-0 down after only five minutes in that contest and such complacency against the Dutch would surely be punished by a front three of Jill Roord, Vivianne Miedema and Lieke Martens.

The Euro 2017 winners can rack up the goals in this one, and backing a Netherlands win and over 2.5 goals is the way to play it.

Elsewhere in Group C, sturdy Sweden should also run out comfortable winners against Switzerland, whose preparations have been hampered by illness in the camp.

The Swiss cancelled training on Monday as a result and that is the last thing they need when preparing to face a team who placed third at the 2019 World Cup.

Switzerland failed to score in pre-tournament friendlies with Germany and England and a Sweden win to nil looks the best approach.
