New York City kept intact their slim chances of winning the Supporters’ Shield with a gutsy comeback success against New England Revolution in midweek, scoring two goals in the final 15 minutes.

The shield is awarded to the club that gets the most points in the MLS regular season and Patrick Vieira’s charges, who have nine games left, are seven points behind the powerhouse Toronto team, who sit top of the Eastern Conference.

And that incentive should mean that City are focused for the trip to their fierce Hudson River rivals, who they have beaten twice in the league this term including once at the Red Bull Arena.

However, the Red Bulls have won their last three league games at home in convincing style, scoring a whopping 12 goals, and they should be fresh for the fixture after dropping nine players for their midweek US Open Cup extra-time victory over FC Cincinnati.

Jesse Marsch’s men also seem to be hitting form at the right time with the playoffs looming.

Victory would take the Red Bulls into third spot in the Eastern Conference, above Chicago before the Fire’s match at home to Western Conference basement boys Minnesota United, and put them in a strong position to qualify for the post-season.

This is the time to back the Red Bulls with confidence to make it four wins on the bounce at home and four wins in the teams’ five meetings in all competitions at their New Jersey base.
