Unai Emery will start his latest job as Aston Villa manager on Monday and his new club face a tricky trip on Saturday to Newcastle, the side he turned down after Steve Bruce was sacked last season.

Emery's decision provided a huge opportunity for Eddie Howe, who dragged the Magpies away from relegation trouble last season and has them in the top four of the Premier League after a dozen games of the 2022-23 campaign.

Newcastle will be wary of a Villa side who thumped Brentford 4-0 at home in their first fixture after Steven Gerrard's departure but the visitors scored only one goal on their last three away trips to ten-man Leeds, Fulham and Nottingham Forest.

That suggests they may struggle to land a blow on an in-form Newcastle side who have taken 13 points from their last five matches, scoring 12 goals.
