Match previews

Czech Republic have qualified for Euro 2020 with a game to spare and can sign off their Group A campaign in style by defeating Bulgaria in Sofia.

There is always the danger of a drop in performance after the main objective of qualification has been achieved but the Czechs should be in a confident frame of mind after winning their last three competitive matches.

They showed strength in adversity at home to Kosovo on Thursday, coming from behind to win 2-1 with second half goals from midfielder Alex Kral and defender Ondrej Celustka.

And head coach Jaroslav Silhavy should want them to keep the foot on the pedal because the result could have a bearing on their seeding for the Euro 2020 finals draw.

If the Czechs are anywhere near their best they should be too talented for Bulgaria, who are propping up the section with three draws and four defeats.

It has been a shambles of a campaign for Bulgaria, who sacked head coach Krasimir Balakov following the 6-0 loss to England last month.

Replacement Georgi Dermendzhiev has a massive task ahead of him because Bulgaria are through to the playoffs in March 2020.

Dermendzhiev will be looking for any signs of progress but they take on the Czechs in an empty stadium after Uefa ordered the match to be played behind closed doors.

The lack of atmosphere should make it easier for the away side, who look solid odds-on favourites.

There will be far more noise in Belgrade, where Serbia need a home victory over Ukraine to have any hope of clinching second place in Group B ahead of Portugal.

However, a successful evening looks a long shot for the Serbs, who need Portugal to drop points away to Luxembourg.

The situation is firmly in Portugal's hands and, if they forge ahead against Luxembourg, it could put a dampener on the evening for Serbian supporters and take the sting out of the match.

In any case group winners Ukraine, who have taken 19 points from a possible 21, are far from easy opponents.

They will be playing for their seeding at Euro 2020 and look excellent value to remain unbeaten.
