Portugal were slow to get started in European Championship qualifying but they can chalk up a fourth successive victory by defeating Group B leaders Ukraine in Kiev.

After drawing their opening two matches at home to Ukraine (0-0) and Serbia (1-1), Portugal looked in a sticky situation.

However, the Iberians' confidence grew after their summer success in the Nations League finals and they got their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign up and running in September with a vital 4-2 success in Serbia.

Comfortable victories away to Lithuania (5-1) and at home to Luxembourg (3-0) followed and Fernando Santos's side should fancy their chances of inflicting Ukraine's first defeat of the campaign.

Ukraine have won their last five qualifiers and are virtually assured of a top-two finish after establishing a nine-point gap to third-placed Serbia with three games to play.

However, they were fortunate to hold out for a goalless draw in the opener away to Portugal after losing the shot count 17-6.

Portugal have improved since and their star-studded attack, spearheaded by 94-goal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, should give them the edge.

Serbia's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2020 will almost certainly boil down to next year's playoffs but they should justify being long odds-on favourites away to basement boys Lithuania.

This campaign has been a massive disappointment for Lithuania, who have taken one point from six matches.

They are heading for another defeat although the Serbs are unlikely to win by a wide margin.

Struggling Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is not in the squad for Serbia, who posted their first away victory of the year when winning 3-1 against Luxembourg in September.
