Trotters could trip through the trap door
Four newly-promoted teams have been relegated from the Sky Bet Championship in the last four seasons and the step up may also prove too difficult for Bolton, who have not done enough to strengthen over the summer.
Bolton's return to the second tier was against the odds because it was achieved despite a transfer embargo which has been in place since the end of 2015.
The embargo - which doesn't allow the club to pay transfer or loan fees and restricts them to a squad of 23 professional players – is making it hard for manager Phil Parkinson to recruit the quality he needs for Bolton to be competitive in a higher division.
