When is the Copa America?

The 2019 Copa America is the 46th edition of the tournament and it begins on Friday, June 14 with Brazil v Bolivia and ends on Sunday, July 7 with the final in Rio de Janeiro.

Where is the Copa America?

The Copa America is being hosted by Brazil for the fifth time but it is the first time in 30 years that they have staged South America's flagship tournament.

On the four previous occasions Brazil have hosted the tournament they have also emerged as champions.

Six venues are being used for the tournament across five host cities, the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, the Estadio do Murumbi and Arena Corinthians in Sao Paolo, the Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte, the Arena do Gremio in Porto Alegre and the Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.

Where can you watch the Copa America?

Premier Sports will be showing every game live across their two channels throughout the tournament.

You can also stream Premier Sports via their streaming service Premier Player which is accessible on computers, tablets and mobiles for the same price as the TV version.

Tournament format

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) consists of ten member associations, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

These ten teams are joined by two other teams invited from another confederation.

This year Qatar, 2022 World Cup hosts, and Japan from The Asian Football Confederation have accepted their invitation to play.

The 2019 Copa America will not have any participant from The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) for the first time since invites were handed out. Most noticeably Mexico will be absent after ten straight appearances.

This tournament will also be the last to have 12 teams as from 2020 an extra four will be added to make it 16 teams and the competition will be played in line with the European Championship.

The 12 participating teams were drawn into three groups of four based on their Fifa ranking. The four teams play each other in a round-robin format with the top two from each group and the two best third-placed teams qualifying for the quarter-finals.
